Dr. Austin Houldsworth is an interdisciplinary practitioner working with all sorts of design elements. His work I found interesting as it tries to answer questions that lets be honest no one is truly asking at this point in time. But his approach has a way of finding a deeper meaning to what may seem like silly or impractical ways to do things. It is within this space that the reason can be found. Well at least this is my opinion of his work. An example of what i mean can be found in his Walden Note Money monetary system as he explains how he came up with the idea, "I imagine and design a payment system that challenges the established monetary function of ‘a store of value.’ Creating a new method of exchange that encourages people to actively destroy their money during a transaction. The process positively reinforces this behaviour through the creation of music, produced from the burning money within the transaction machine."
I enjoyed his guest lecture as I myself like to experiment with different mediums and the mix off digital and analogue design techniques.
